  1. Random Movie Generator

There should be a random movie generator, somewhat similar to Flickchart, where you can have random popular or highly regarded films that pop up. When you mark one as seen then it disappears and a new movie pops up to take its place. This would make it a lot easier and faster to add as many movies as possible.

  3. View multiple tags at once

Allow a user to see a list movies that match multiple tags. E.g.: I want to see all 'bluray' movies I 'watched in 2011'.

  4. Add more than four favorite movies

It would be nice if we could add an unlimited number of favorite movies. Four is very little. The profile of each person could be displayed only four of these films and have a link to show all favorite movies, just as it is with Recent Activity.

  5. Show 'Follows You' status on Following page

It would be nice if a little detail was added to the 'following' page (http://letterboxd.com/username/following/), 'FOLLOWS YOU' would be a nice option to see in the list with members who you follow. Now you have to go to each member seperatly to see if they follow you back or not.

  6. Lists Should Have Default Sorting/Display Options

Right now it seems Lists default to show covers with any added notes not being visible until the viewer manually switches View modes (which is just a small button). I like to have my lists with a bit of substance. I'd like to see an option while creating a List to be able to default your specific list to whatever view style suits it best.

  8. more flexible RSS feed

I'd quite like to import my reviews onto my blog, with a link to letterboxd. However, it seems that my RSS feed also contains other activity such as adding items to lists.

If there was a neat way to get a link to more specific RSS feed that didn't have a confusing UX that'd be really helpful.

For example Flickr has a link on each page to subscribe to update for that page. My photostream's RSS link is for all my photos, but the RSS link on the page for a particular album only contains updates to that album.

    It…

  9. Filter watchlist with multiple services at once

Right now I have Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. From my settings page, I want to be able to check off which services I have access to. Then I want to be able to filter my watchlist by all available services. Additionally, it would be helpful to display on which services a film is available on an individual film's page. This would help tremendously in figuring out which films I need to buy or rent vs which ones I can access from a streaming service.

We’ll consider multiple filters at once. You can click the “More Services” link on a film’s page to open a panel that lists all the services the film is on according to GoWatchIt.com.

  10. Compare Lists

Would be great if we could cross two or more lists generating a new list (temporary or not) as a result.

A greater possibility of films exploration.

I'm always dying to explore better giant lists like Palm d'or Nominees to see how many films an director has in it. Or another example to intersect this previous list with Criterion collection etc etc.

Note that you can already import one list into another (if you’re Pro, you can clone someone’s list and then—by removing everything above the column titles for film entries in the exported file the file—you can import this into another list). This provides a union of two lists, but not an intersection. We’ll have a think about list comparison for intersection.

  11. Add Ratings from other sources to the film page

I't would be great to see ratings from other sources like IMDB, TMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, below the Letterboxd ratings,

  12. Add a table view for the film list, with sortable/filterable columns

This would allow us to search, filter, and otherwise analyze our data easily. We may also wish to create graphs and lists with this info; while it would be nice if Letterboxd also did that, it would be easier and more flexible if we could get at the raw data. See Goodreads for a decent example of rich tables of user data.

We’ve completed the first stage of this, by changing the default diary view to a sortable table view. We’d love follow-up feedback on how useful this is, and if/how you’d like to see this view used elsewhere in the site.

  13. Popular Users

Do we really need the Popular Users page? it just turns the site into a popularity contest.

  14. Smart Lists

It would be great to have the ability to create Smart Lists.
    Preferably running on multiple criteria.
    Tags, When watched, rewatched etc;
If you could also then use the data imported from tmdb as well you could really start opening up powerful lists.

It would also be nice if there was the option to have a list generated on the users content or against the movie database.
I'd love to be able to generate a list, automatically, of all the films starring Harvey Keitel so I could see how many I've seen and work my way through.

  15. Comment control including ability to close/disable comments

I think letterboxd users should be able to control on who comments on their reviews. There's a lot of bitter angry people who get mad when they read something they don't like and I, and many others, don't like being attacked. So maybe a control on who comments on your reviews? Like, a toggle option 'only people you follow can comment on your reviews'? I'm not sure if that would be difficult to do or not. Or the ability to delete others comments from our reviews. I don't like having to constantly report a comment I don't like waiting for…

We have considered a few options in consultation with members, and our solution to preventing members posting comments (and removing all comments from a member) is to Block the member on their profile page.

Blocking was recently upgraded so if you block a member, their comments are removed from all of your content, for you and anyone who visits it.

We’re happy with the 15-minute edit window on comments, and in extreme cases you can use the report function to have your own comments removed beyond this window.

  16. Amazon Prime Filter

How about a filter for Amazon Prime members? I see you already have Amazon and Amazon Instant. Adding Prime would be amazing.

    Thanks.

  17. Don't delete user's comments when they delete their account

I don't think you should be deleted user's comments when they delete/deactivate their account. When the comments are deleted/removed it makes all the comment threads illegible and all messed up because people are responding to a comment that no longer exists.

  18. Change the like system

Too many people now like hundreds of reviews a day, never reading them, which ruins activity feeds. The aim seems to be to get as high as possible on the 'popular posters' page.

There should be more value given to likes received rather than those given as it encourages interaction and content.

Maybe the current set-up benefits the SEO of Letterboxd right now because you are getting more clicks etc with this system, I'm not sure. It's just a shame that you have to keep unfollowing people who clog up your activity feed with page after page of likes.

Liking other members’ reviews does not increase one’s popularity on the site, as likes given are not considered in those calculations.

Pro members are also able to filter out likes from their activity feed, if these are a problem.

  19. Pin Reviews and Lists to your Profile

Would love the option of pinning my work to my profile, so those visiting my page can see the reviews I'm most proud of. My most-liked reviews tend to be one or two sentence blurbs, but I'd prefer to display my longform stuff for potential followers. Might work like the pinned tweets function on Twitter.

  20. Correct the “more services” feature

The “more services” feature is great for telling you where you might be able to stream a film. But it is incorrect on so many occasions. For example, it says that Brawl in Cell Block 99 is streaming on showtime anytime. But this is false.

It’s a great feature in theory if you can get it right.
