I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Correct the “more services” feature

The “more services” feature is great for telling you where you might be able to stream a film. But it is incorrect on so many occasions. For example, it says that Brawl in Cell Block 99 is streaming on showtime anytime. But this is false.

It’s a great feature in theory if you can get it right.

  2. Message boards

Now that IMDb is shutting down their message boards, it's all the more reason to have something like it on Letterboxd. I think it is much more practical to discuss movies in such formats than it is to do so in and on reviews. It is also a great opportunity for the site to grow.

  3. Add more statistics to Year In Review page, update more than once a year

I am trying to make my film-watching as robust as possible. the more statistics i can see, the better. I set personal annual goals of number to watch, amount of special collections, foreign languages, etc. if I could see these on a rolling basis I'd have an idea of how far I'm leaning in any one direction (ie oh shit I've watched 70% comedies this year). Ideas include adding:

    -breakdown of languages watched
-breakdown of award-winning or special collection (ie criterion) films watched
-infographic of nations watched (ie a map showing the globe and 4 films made in Israel, 16…

  4. Easy way to fix posters

So many movies have low quality posters, there needs to be an easier way for users to suggest a better poster. I also believe that the original art should be used and not some horrible photoshopped version which I see all the time. Editing out text from a poster messes up the design and makes most of them look awful because they are designed to have that text on there. I also think it is a bit of an insult to some of the amazing poster designers, especially when people mess up with iconic and classic posters by famous designers.…

Letterboxd favours original poster releases over DVD covers and artwork from subsequent releases (in most cases). We also favour versions of original posters with credits reduced or removed — such credits do not fare well at the small sizes we display posters at, and we feel in most cases the simpler visual presentation works better.

Unfortunately, due to the subjective nature of voting for posters, there isn’t an easy way to enable this to everyone’s satisfaction. But we’re happy for you to report the odd film using the flag icon in order to let us know if a superior poster exists on TMDb, notwithstanding the above caveats.

  5. Regional Netflix

Hi guys. Sorry but I did not renew my Pro subscription. With Netflix blocking VPN and Proxy users, the Pro subscription adds absolutely zero value to any Non-US user.

I do not need to import films anymore: I did that once when I joined and that was it. The only pro feature left for me to use was to filter my watchlist by Netflix Instant availability, which is hardly worth the subscription price anyway.

Now, the feature is worthless, since I can't check the availability with my local (Brazil) Netflix catalogue.

Please consider this, you guys might be losing a…

  8. Add the new Twin Peaks (2017) as a limited series

Previously I wrote feedback concerning Paolo Sorrentino's The Young Pope (2016), and how it should be on Letterboxd as a limited series (miniseries) so long as the site was including such things.* [See link at the bottom.] I made a detailed argument about the identity of a miniseries and how the format should be considered. As my request was promptly fulfilled, my argument seemingly adopted, I'm unsure how much I need to repeat myself in regard to my latest request, about the 2017 limited series Twin Peaks.

In much of Showtime's promotional material, the title Twin Peaks: The Return is…

We’re working on a solution to allow us to continue to import mini series from TMDb even once they are moved to its TV section. Once this is ready, we’ll be better placed to make a call about the inclusion of this content.

  9. Make the development roadmap public

Or find some other way to tell your users when certain features are coming.

A company blog also goes a long way into giving users some insight in the development.

  10. Embedding lists/reviews on other sites.

Not exactly sure how this might work, but somehow make it possible for me to embed my lists on a blog or Facebook or some other web site (complete with images).

Each title could link back to Letterboxd.com.

  11. Allow strikethrough text in reviews and comments

Add the HTML <s> tag to the allowed tag list for review and comment content, or at least just reviews as they can be edited later to strike text.

  12. Arrange List By Your Own Rating

I have private lists of the movies watched during a specific year, and would love to be able to arrange them by my own star rating. The site already allows to arrange lists by all users' average rating, but it sure would be swell to be able to arrange by my own personal ratings. Thanks.

  13. enable diary entries to be unspecified for day & month.

I would love to add many back-entries to my diary. Usually, one does not know the exact date when one saw a movie in an earlier year. It's a great option to be able to add this, but these date infos shouldn't be mandatory.

Is there any way you can show me if movies are available for free instant streaming with Amazon Prime? That would be excellent... :)

  15. Widget to show recently diary entry on blog sidebar

I would like a widget I can put on my blog sidebar to show film (with poster image) I recently saw.
I have tried put letterboxd RSS on blog sidebar, but It only has text and on show the entry with review.
    Thank you.

  16. Toggle between "Grid View" and "List View" for pages other than Lists

I would like to be able to view the Watchlist as text as opposed to just the current movie posters.

While this problem could also be solved by the "Export Our Data to a Standard File Format" suggestion, I think this would nonetheless still be a nice addition to the Watchlist feature.

  17. Filter diary page by watches/rewatches

I don't know if it's just me, but I wish I could just filter any diary page to show only first time watches, or only rewatches, the same way we do with ratings.

  18. Movie Posters

Hi, I know this has been mentioned before but I'd really like to make a point about the movie posters.

I read about the website's preference for simplified, cleaner versions, keeping only the name of the film and dropping all the remaining information that composes a movie poster. I was wondering why people keep uploading such versions at TMDB and, searching through this board, I found out that the reason is that these versions work better at smaller sizes.

It may be a good point but it still bothers me so much because those simplified versions feel like a scar…

We generally prefer original, theatrical posters (or simplifications thereof) over DVD covers, but we are a small team and we don’t review every film entry regularly to check this is the case—sometimes such a file isn’t available. (If it is, we may have chosen a Criterion cover because it was more immediately recognizable for the film.)

We feel that cleaner versions of posters work better at the small sizes we often exhibit them at. We respect your right to disagree, but we don’t plan to change this approach.

It’s possible we’ll one day allow Pro members to choose their preferred poster, but that’s not high on our priority list at present.

  19. Allow list owners to sort to a list prior to saving

I have a list of over 400 films that I'd like to keep sorted. Dragging and dropping is not a feasible method for a list of this size. I'd like to be able to sort the list by name, either manually (e.g. by clicking a 'sort now' button), or automatically (select a default sort order for when the list is displayed).

  20. Add a distinction between feature films, tv shows and maybe others types of media (short films, mini tv series, etc.).

It doesn't need to be something big like having a different page layout for movies and series. It's just that if I enter a page of a tv series that I don't know, I confuse it for a movie. A simple one or two words description like "feature film"/"tv series" next to the title or somewhere on the page would be enough.
