  1. Bulk tag editing and other enhancements

After obsessively adding/sorting/erasing/rewriting tags, I had a few suggestions I thought might improve their general function. I'm aware that some of these ideas might be impossibly complicated to implement, so this is more of a dream wish list:

    - Tag Editing: Rather than only create or delete tags, enable an editing function. It'd make things easier for correcting spelling errors or reclassifying tags that have been used hundreds of times.

    - Tag Folders: Allow users to subdivide tags into separate groups if they see fit. For example, I might discretely classify certain tags as 'genre', 'mood', 'actors', or 'miscellaneous', retaining…

    • Fix your alphabetical sorting

I know I've personally suggested this same feature in a different thread a while back ago, I can see there's others that have in the past too. I love your site and using your new app on Apple TV makes finding a good movie to watch that much easier. But you guys truly are using an alphabetical system that is incorrect and very frustrating. Films should not be bunched together just because they begin with an article. In my watchlist, "The Accountant" should come right after "Accepted," but because it has "the" in the title, it comes hundreds of titles…

        • Movie Posters

Hi, I know this has been mentioned before but I'd really like to make a point about the movie posters.

I read about the website's preference for simplified, cleaner versions, keeping only the name of the film and dropping all the remaining information that composes a movie poster. I was wondering why people keep uploading such versions at TMDB and, searching through this board, I found out that the reason is that these versions work better at smaller sizes.

It may be a good point but it still bothers me so much because those simplified versions feel like a scar…

We generally prefer original, theatrical posters (or simplifications thereof) over DVD covers, but we are a small team and we don’t review every film entry regularly to check this is the case—sometimes such a file isn’t available. (If it is, we may have chosen a Criterion cover because it was more immediately recognizable for the film.)

We feel that cleaner versions of posters work better at the small sizes we often exhibit them at. We respect your right to disagree, but we don’t plan to change this approach.

It’s possible we’ll one day allow Pro members to choose their preferred poster, but that’s not high on our priority list at present.

            • stop 'add a film' deselecting when the list exceeds page length

It's hard to explain but in edit, when adding films, 'add a film' deselects when the list exceeds the page length recquiring the scroll bar to shrink. Whenever the list pulls the scroll bar, 'add a film' deselects, requiring it to be reselected every time 3 films are added.

              • Watchlist: See Star Rating on Rollover

Would be helpful to see the star rating of a movie when you mouse over a film in your Watchlist. Currently, there's no way to see a movie's rating in the Watchlist without actually clicking through to the film's page.

                • Message boards

Now that IMDb is shutting down their message boards, it's all the more reason to have something like it on Letterboxd. I think it is much more practical to discuss movies in such formats than it is to do so in and on reviews. It is also a great opportunity for the site to grow.

                  • Allow users to mark a review as "read"

I think it would be very useful to have the ability to mark a review as "read". I really enjoy reading others' reviews, but it can be a little frustrating scrolling through reviews and not knowing/remembering which ones I have already read or not being able to find unread ones. I know a lot of people use the "like" feature for this purpose, but I am very selective with the likes I give and having another method of indication would be very useful.

This feature could then be used as an added sort level. For instance, one could go to…

                    • show ratings of "friends who watched" a film consistently

To explain what I mean, I'll give a specific example.

My friend (letterboxd user "etc") created a diary entry when he watched the film "Only God Forgives" in which he gave the film 4 stars. On a later date, he re-rated the film with 4.5 stars, with no diary entry.

When I visit the film's page (https://letterboxd.com/film/only-god-forgives/) and mouse over his picture in the "Watched By" section, it shows his diary entry's rating (4 stars) as seen here:

                      https://ptpimg.me/5v6jk6.png

However, if I go to the "Friends who watched" page for that film, it shows his more recent rating,…

As you’re looking at two different types of activity, this is tricky. On the film page, we prioritise diary entries as these are generally more instructive (and ratings can be attached to them, allowing a member’s rating to change with repeated watches). On the Friends page, we show each members’ most recent activity.

                      • Notifications Tab

Instead of receiving notifications exclusively by email, I'd love to see something along the lines of a facebook notification tab that lets me know whenever I log in that I've received "likes" or comments on my reviews, and when there's comments on conversations I participated it.

                        • I would love to see a message board format to replace imdb. Your site has a great look and could easily steal all the users a way from them.

Message board format for your comments section. You could easily steal all of imdb users in the next few weeks with a change to the comments section. We all need a place to go and read about others idea and share our own. I use imdb multiple times a day just for their message boards.

                          • Convert Letterboxd CSVs to IMDb format

I need my watchlist in IMDb format for this service (https://www.werstreamt.es/) to check where the movies are available.
I didn't find a way to convert it, so could you provide a tool for that? Because nearly every site uses the IMDb list format.

Another possibility would be that the "Service" filter supports other countries besides the US. Amazon Prime and Netflix Germany in my case.

                            • Advanced search

Long-time Filmtipset.se user, now migrated to Letterboxd. What I miss more than anything else is an advanced search option. I use this very frequently to set up different lists. For example, thrillers produced in France between 1960 and 1964, documentaries produced in Sweden between 1930 and 1945 or short films produced in the US between 2000 and 2015. You get my point.

                              • change the text in the Facebook publishing box

every time I post a review from your site using the Facebook icon in the share menu, when I click post it always says "Your review was not published" but the review is always successfully published. It's not a big issue but it's a little disconcerting that it keeps telling me it wasn't published with it was. Perhaps you can change the text to remove the "not" from a successfully published review?

                                  • Could you update Poster of a film?

<Minute Bodies: The Intimate World of F. Percy Smith> has no Poster in Letterboxd. I've searched it on Google so there is a poster exist.

                                    • Don't watch button

I love to see trailers for movies. Some movies you just need to see, and some sound good, but when you see the trailer you know this movie you don´t want to watch. A don´t watch button would be a big help not to see the same trailer again.

                                      • Lists should require at least 3 entries

2 movies is not a meaningful list, and it's abused to make the same tired "movies that <absurdly specific criteria>" joke.

                                        • Offer integration with Common Sense Media

Before showing films to my kids, I typically check out Common Sense Media for ratings, reviews, etc. CSM is a nonprofit with a public API so I'm guessing it would not be difficult or expensive to offer this integration, and it would add value both for Letterboxd and CSM. The simplest thing would be to just provide links to the CSM pages for films, but even better if possible would be to display CSM's "age recommendation" within Letterboxd.
