  1. Watchlist - Who and Where

When I add something to my Watchlist, there are two critical pieces of information I'd like to be able to include:

    1) Who told me about the movie or where did I hear about it.
    2) Where I plan to watch it.

    Examples:

    a) the Inside Streaming newsletter recommended I watch a film on Netflix. I put it in my Watchlist but over time I'll forget why I did or where I can watch it.
    b) a friend at work recommends I watch a movie he/she saw on TCM last night. When I put it in my watch list I'd…

    • Bulk tag editing and other enhancements

After obsessively adding/sorting/erasing/rewriting tags, I had a few suggestions I thought might improve their general function. I'm aware that some of these ideas might be impossibly complicated to implement, so this is more of a dream wish list:

      - Tag Editing: Rather than only create or delete tags, enable an editing function. It'd make things easier for correcting spelling errors or reclassifying tags that have been used hundreds of times.

      - Tag Folders: Allow users to subdivide tags into separate groups if they see fit. For example, I might discretely classify certain tags as 'genre', 'mood', 'actors', or 'miscellaneous', retaining…

      • Add the new Twin Peaks (2017) as a limited series

Previously I wrote feedback concerning Paolo Sorrentino's The Young Pope (2016), and how it should be on Letterboxd as a limited series (miniseries) so long as the site was including such things.* [See link at the bottom.] I made a detailed argument about the identity of a miniseries and how the format should be considered. As my request was promptly fulfilled, my argument seemingly adopted, I'm unsure how much I need to repeat myself in regard to my latest request, about the 2017 limited series Twin Peaks.

In much of Showtime's promotional material, the title Twin Peaks: The Return is…

        • average rating + minimum of ratings

I want to be able to establish a minimum (or any value I want to put) number of ratings when I sort by average rating.

Example of query: highest rated 2004 horror movies with a minimum of 1000 ratings.

Or it could go by the film popularity.

I feel like this is essential for movie discovering and a fairly deal of people have already asked for it.

            • Add filmstruck to the service filter list

Filmstruck is now available on GoWatchIt.com, so you could add it to the services filter list.

              • Custom Filters / Tags

I think it would be cool if you could assign your own filters to lists.

For example you could create a tag named "Again and Again" in which you could tag all movies that you can watch all the time.
For me, I would tag all movies that are available on Netflix Germany and would be able to filter my watchlist by this.

Another approach would be to filter Lists by other Lists so that you can see which movies are in both lists.

There would be so many useful things you could do with this.

                • Top Actor/Director stats (rewatches)

At the moment when showing top actors and directors - it counts unique films. Would it be possible to also have a counter that takes re watches into account? Both yearly and overall

Also would be nice to have more categories of most watched such as cinematography/writer/producer etc.

                    • Issue finding title for list

I'm trying to list every movie that I've seen, but am having trouble. I want to add the movie Life (1999 - Ted Demme) to my 1999 list, but it isn't showing up in the search bar. Sometimes you can tinker with the letters to get what you want to show up but I'm having no luck.

I't would be great to see ratings from other sources like IMDB, TMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, below the Letterboxd ratings,

                        • Name of Film Beneath Film Poster

When browsing through films it would be nice to see the name of the film in decent sized text underneath the film poster as opposed to simply seeing it in small text when hovering over it (sometimes the title disappears quickly and you don't have a chance to see it and you then must hover over it again for the title to reappear). It would be much more accessible and easier on the eyes when scrolling through filmographies if the film titles were put underneath the corresponding posters.

It's nice to see title and year when hovering over posters, but it'd be nice to have the same functionality on movie titles when they show up alone, like in your activity feed, without having to click through to find out which version or in which year it was made. It'd also be great to get a little user preview when hovering over usernames.

                                I have several ideas:

                                1) How many times have you watched a movie : in the theater? on video?
                                2) A "Walked Out"/"Turned Off"/"Did Not Finish" option for the rating system
                                3) A total time spent watching movies that does not include Did Not Finish
                                4) Matching Top Ten Lists

I know I've personally suggested this same feature in a different thread a while back ago, I can see there's others that have in the past too. I love your site and using your new app on Apple TV makes finding a good movie to watch that much easier. But you guys truly are using an alphabetical system that is incorrect and very frustrating. Films should not be bunched together just because they begin with an article. In my watchlist, "The Accountant" should come right after "Accepted," but because it has "the" in the title, it comes hundreds of titles…

                                  • A few glitches when it comes to lists

I've encountered two frustrating glitches when it comes to lists. First, with lists of a certain size (~2,500 films or more) I cannot edit them on the desktop browser without the website subsequently deleting every film on the list past ~2,500 (I can't remember the exact number). This problem does not occur when I edit lists on mobile. Secondly, I've found that for these huge lists, it also likes to skip a number. For my ranked list, which has 5,151 films on it, the list will skip 2,920, going straight from 2,919 to 2921. As a result of this, the…

The list editing limit on the web is about 3,300 we believe. We’re looking to adopt the same approach as in our app, but it’s not ready yet.

The missing list items is probably due to a film in the list having been deleted from the site (we routinely remove entries that TMDb removes for not being films). Adding and removing a film from said list should fix it, but obviously that’s not possible if you strike the first issue. Noted.

Please integrate with Rotten Tomatoes! It would be amazing to see a movie's Rotten Tomato score integrated right into the sight.

Flixter does this. They also have the relevant Rotten Tomato reviews displayed under a movie's information. I also love that they show a "consensus" synthesis of the reviews.

I like a lot of things on letterboxd more than Flixter, but missing this feature is a bummer.

I think we should have annual goals, too. It will encourage people to watch movies. Like, I plan to watch 300 movies this year.

                                        • Movie Posters

Hi, I know this has been mentioned before but I'd really like to make a point about the movie posters.

I read about the website's preference for simplified, cleaner versions, keeping only the name of the film and dropping all the remaining information that composes a movie poster. I was wondering why people keep uploading such versions at TMDB and, searching through this board, I found out that the reason is that these versions work better at smaller sizes.

It may be a good point but it still bothers me so much because those simplified versions feel like a scar…

We generally prefer original, theatrical posters (or simplifications thereof) over DVD covers, but we are a small team and we don’t review every film entry regularly to check this is the case—sometimes such a file isn’t available. (If it is, we may have chosen a Criterion cover because it was more immediately recognizable for the film.)

We feel that cleaner versions of posters work better at the small sizes we often exhibit them at. We respect your right to disagree, but we don’t plan to change this approach.

It’s possible we’ll one day allow Pro members to choose their preferred poster, but that’s not high on our priority list at present.
