I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Most watched

I don't know if this is available already but I'd like to see how many times I have watched a particular film

  2. Improve GoWatchIt matching algorithm

There are a number of titles that letterboxd gets wrong when using the gowatchit service filter option. For instance, navigating to the "Okja" page and clicking "More services" under the "Watch" banner, the page from gowatchit lists the title as "Oka!" which is an entirely different movie. This explains why "Okja" does not show up on the Netflix service filter in letterboxd, even though it is a Netflix original.

Those names are similar enough, but it also makes some nonsensical errors - "The Human Surge" links to a movie called "The Lovers and the Despot". There are many more examples.

  3. Movies by Country?

The site is great but when you browse all the movies you can filter them by year and genre but not country, which makes researches much longer, at least for me...

You can browse by country from a film’s page. This is sub-optimal as you need to find a film from the country you’re interested in, in order to find more from that country. We plan to add a list of all countries and languages.

  4. Random Movie Button

I am sure you have had this asked for plenty but here goes!

As I have been adding movies to my watch list, I realise as the list grows I am less and less likely to watch the ones that I added earliest, as I would have to scroll all the way down.

My simple idea is to have a button that will cycle through your watch list and pick a random movie - for when I am looking for a movie to watch!

Could also possibly do the same for the site as a whole and it’s entire database…

  5. Android app: add to list and list editing

Hello, It might be me who can't find it, but I don't seem to have the option to add movies to any list on the Android app ? Also I can see my lists but am unable to edit them ? I'm sorry if it's not the right place to ask this, but it could be a bug? Thank you !

  6. Comment control including ability to close/disable comments

I think letterboxd users should be able to control on who comments on their reviews. There's a lot of bitter angry people who get mad when they read something they don't like and I, and many others, don't like being attacked. So maybe a control on who comments on your reviews? Like, a toggle option 'only people you follow can comment on your reviews'? I'm not sure if that would be difficult to do or not. Or the ability to delete others comments from our reviews. I don't like having to constantly report a comment I don't like waiting for…

We have considered a few options in consultation with members, and our solution to preventing members posting comments (and removing all comments from a member) is to Block the member on their profile page.

Blocking was recently upgraded so if you block a member, their comments are removed from all of your content, for you and anyone who visits it.

We’re happy with the 15-minute edit window on comments, and in extreme cases you can use the report function to have your own comments removed beyond this window.

  7. Tag Sorting/Filtering

It would be nice if I could go to Tags, select a tag, and sort the resulting list of films based on the dates I logged them in my diary. Since the tags are on the log entries and not on the films themselves, it seems like this should be something that is allowed.

Another idea would be to allow more robust filtering on the diary (and on other lists), maybe filter by tags you've created?

  8. Sync with IMDB - Both ways.

It would be great if it would be possible to sync my Letterboxd Watchlist with IMDB, so I don't have to do the same work on IMDB, I have done on Letterboxed already. It would be much easier to export my List from Letterboxd, an import it on IMDB.

  10. Pin Reviews and Lists to your Profile

Would love the option of pinning my work to my profile, so those visiting my page can see the reviews I'm most proud of. My most-liked reviews tend to be one or two sentence blurbs, but I'd prefer to display my longform stuff for potential followers. Might work like the pinned tweets function on Twitter.

  11. Statistics

Letterboxd is really about the pleasure to have a collection for me.
So instead of just having a "passive" watched list, the website should be able to give something in return, to make the most of that exhaustively created listing.
I'm thinking of creating a "statistics" tabs under your profile, with plenty of details, for which I can provide some ideas below:

    -number of films (done)
    -most watched genre
    -most watched director
    -most watched actor
    -average year
    -most watched year (release)
    -average rating
    -combined runtime
    -average runtime
    -bar/graph with genres
    -bar/graph with dates
    -bar/graph with runtimes
    -bar/graph with languages/countries

    I…

  13. Easy way to fix posters

So many movies have low quality posters, there needs to be an easier way for users to suggest a better poster. I also believe that the original art should be used and not some horrible photoshopped version which I see all the time. Editing out text from a poster messes up the design and makes most of them look awful because they are designed to have that text on there. I also think it is a bit of an insult to some of the amazing poster designers, especially when people mess up with iconic and classic posters by famous designers.…

Letterboxd favours original poster releases over DVD covers and artwork from subsequent releases (in most cases). We also favour versions of original posters with credits reduced or removed — such credits do not fare well at the small sizes we display posters at, and we feel in most cases the simpler visual presentation works better.

Unfortunately, due to the subjective nature of voting for posters, there isn’t an easy way to enable this to everyone’s satisfaction. But we’re happy for you to report the odd film using the flag icon in order to let us know if a superior poster exists on TMDb, notwithstanding the above caveats.

  17. Crew changes from TMDB not imported

I have added many composers and lyricists
    eg. https://www.themoviedb.org/person/1741599-manna-dey?language=en-US
But it still hasn't been imported despite 15 days passed.

  18. Cover Photo

Wouldn't it be great if our profiles could have cover photos?

This would not be unlike Facebook, Twitter, or even the film pages themselves; every user would now just have the ability to post their own (hopefully film related) images for their covers. Heck, even if it's not film related, perhaps it would allow for some further insight into the mind of each user, and would provide an overall more enjoyable experience as clicking through reviews, likes, etc.

    Just a thought!

Cover photos are available for Patron members of the site. They are taken from the backdrop of the first of your four favorites (if available). Let us know if you’re a Patron and your favorite film is missing an image.

  19. Better search functionality (typeahead / autocomplete)

Search really needs to have type ahead. It's 2018... use type ahead or auto complete or whatever you want to call it.

  20. Where to Watch

The “Where to Watch” section for each movie is a great tool and a good way to easily find films in my watchlist that can be immediately available (I have Netflix, Hulu, and Prime). Unfortunately, it seems these haven’t been updated in years: there are many films that say they are available on Netflix when they are not and vice versa. Netflix publishes a list of what’s coming and going each month and it would seem easy to continue to update...

We use GoWatchIt.com’s data to keep our Netflix availability up to date, but we can sometimes lag by a few days/weeks for less popular titles. If you spot any titles that have incorrect data for the US market in the Where to Watch panel, please send a list to help@letterboxd.com and we’ll get them updated. We appreciate the help!
