A FILM STARTS WITH A SCRIPT
“To make a great film you need three things – the script, the script and the script.” – Alfred Hitchcock
Whilst there are many important jobs in film (producer, cinematographer...), I think that the writer just MUST be up there directly to be seen and not hidden with the other cast and crew.
IMDB and Plex, both display the name of the writer directly below that of the director. For good reason. I find not doing this is grossly negligent!1 vote
It would be very useful to be able to see at a glance items which do not have a review in either one's own film list or the film list of another Letterboxd member.1 vote
I’m really enjoying using this app and I’m new to the platform. So it’s worrying me that I always get the same type of click bait / phishing type of advert that claims I’ve won an iPhone cause I’m the 1000th customer. Please fix this, if I’m investing time and putting my info into this app, I need to be assured that data isn’t completely being ransomed to anybody. I’m not ignorant I know cause it’s free we can expect adverts but click bait spam ads, really ??1 vote
Where are you seeing the adverts? In web views inside the app? The app iteself does not serve ads at this time.
I love Letterboxd, and I love Filmstruck. Sadly, Filmstruck has no rating system nor way to track what I've watched. How cool would it be if your two organizations partnered up! It would bring visibility to Letterboxd and give Filmstruck a huge missing feature.
Hopefully you're at least having coffee with the Filmstruck folks on occasion. :)1 vote
We’d love to work with them on something like this and have reached out.
I tried adding american psycho and got an error. I retried 5 times. it hasn't been added but my "total movies watched" count went up by 5. please fix!1 vote
We’ll check it out, thanks for letting us know.
When scrolling through movies, there's no way to see what you've already marked as "watched"/"want to watch"/"liked". This functionality is available on Goodreads (for reference). Currently your browsing UX is not as pleasant as it could be due to the confusion of not knowing whether the "watched" movies that you see are already marked as such, which causes people like me to want to check/re-mark them.1 vote
Thanks for your feedback. We do have a “Fade Watched” option which you can engage for most poster grid views, that fades out films you’ve marked as watched. Showing watched, liked and watchlisted status for every film all the time in those views leads to a very busy interface and detracts from the browsing experience.
My name is Andrei and I saw the 2016 Year in Review landing page. Everything is really nice except the first screen of the landing page (the one with the dot that is flipping and changing colors). That screen is really confusing because I was waiting for the content to load (for about 10 minutes) until I scrolled down. I hope that my feedback can be of use :).
Have a nice day,
Thanks Andre. That page should load up a selection of posters and show them to you. Sorry if that’s not working for you! (We’ll double check that it’s working in your Edge 14 browser.)
When I export my Letterboxd Lists, the Notes I have entered appear in a field with the DESCRIPTION header. However, there does not seem to be a way to import those Notes into a new Letterboxd List. In other words, there is not a field in the Import Header template that seems to correspond to the DESCRIPTION (or Notes) field. Can you help?1 vote
The export and import options are not 100% compatible with each other at this time. We do not support notes import. We’ll look at support for this in the future.
I have a movie blog that I do with a couple of my buddies that I would love to just be able to post my Letterboxd reviews to as well. Would it be possible to get a link by the Facebook and Twitter symbols to Blogger.com as well?1 vote
We may add a popup with extra services in it in a future release.
As the title says really. When I'm viewing a list for inspiration for stuff to watch, it would be handy to see the average rating and/or number of likes without having to view the film's page.
Perhaps only displaying this in list mode would be sufficient, and use up some of the blank space in that view.1 vote
We’re planning to at least show the list owner’s rating in list detail view. We’re not fond of average ratings across the site, but will investigate other options for representing the best films, perhaps a sort option by popularity.
Weird Chrome charset issue:
Only happens on /people/ in chrome.1 vote
Thanks for reporting, we’ll take a look.
After un-rating all of my films, it now shows that I have -1 films rated. Meanwhile it says I have 4 reviews when I in fact only have 3.1 vote
We cache a number of data points in the site, which occasionally leads to inconsistent totals. When the relevant cache expires, your totals will correct themselves. We’ll take a look and see if we can improve our handling here by not allowing negatives!
It won't show all films in my list even when I set it to show all. They only appear when the list is set display in any order other than 'ranked.'
What gives??1 vote
Hi Sean, could you please post a link to a screen-shot of what’s visible for you when it’s broken? Thanks!
I've encountered two frustrating glitches when it comes to lists. First, with lists of a certain size (~2,500 films or more) I cannot edit them on the desktop browser without the website subsequently deleting every film on the list past ~2,500 (I can't remember the exact number). This problem does not occur when I edit lists on mobile. Secondly, I've found that for these huge lists, it also likes to skip a number. For my ranked list, which has 5,151 films on it, the list will skip 2,920, going straight from 2,919 to 2921. As a result of this, the list only has 5,151 films on it but the ranked number on the final film is actually 5,152. The number is not skipped when I attempt to edit the list on mobile, but nothing I do fixes the problem. On the side of list, as well, rather than saying just "You've watched 721 of 5151," it says "You've watched 721 of 5151 / 5152." I know this is a minot grievance but I just want to put it out there.

The list editing limit on the web is about 3,300 we believe. We’re looking to adopt the same approach as in our app, but it’s not ready yet.
The missing list items is probably due to a film in the list having been deleted from the site (we routinely remove entries that TMDb removes for not being films). Adding and removing a film from said list should fix it, but obviously that’s not possible if you strike the first issue. Noted.
Please make it possible to save or bookmark lists from other people. It sucks having to search every time for a given list.
Alternatively, show the liked lists on the profile under "lists", below the own lists.1 vote
If you “like” lists that you want to save, you can look at your Likes on your profile and then click the title of the Lists column to see all liked lists.
when I connect my facebook account with letterboxd it should give my the option to invite my friends from there to come and use letterboxd1 vote
This is not a high priority for us. You can find friends that are already using Letterboxd here (http://letterboxd.com/user/find-friends/facebook/). Then you’d be best to post about Letterboxd on FB to encourage your friends to also use it,
Is there a way to do this? If not, is it possible to delete all my diary and watched films at once and then import just the entries but not the ratings?1 vote
We don’t currently have a way to remove partial activity from an account. We may be able to achieve this using an import/export trick—will post here in due course.
Titles and names have to be exact to be found, the search bar should suggest so film titles can be more easily found and not have to go on a separate page to be clicked again.1 vote
There’s an auto-complete search field for films on the main Films page. We’d like to add auto-complete for other types in the main search field as well.
A photo of the actor/director appearing when you hover over their name in a movie page. Sometimes Choi Woo-shik doesn't really ring a bell, but a face does. Clicking on the name just to see the actor and then returning to the movie is quite the hard work.1 vote
Is it possible to add a filter when searching through films to either filter out or fade out the movies that you have reviewed? Basically generate a list of the films you have seen and/or rated, but have not actually written a review about.1 vote
If you make Diary entries, you can easily see from the Diary page which films have been reviewed. We’ll consider adding a Not Reviewed filter elsewhere, but it’s not a high priority right now.
