I think "recommendation" will be a killer feature of the site, even if it doesn't approach the philosophy behind letterboxd (being a social site).
Moreover now that you are at the beta stage, meaning fewer users, less probability of "friends", the recommendation of a movie based on my most liked movies or the highest rating, it'll be a great way of discovering new movies.
I know that technically it will very challenging or maybe you have even think about it.
We’re considering options around this at present. Thanks for your input, which is invaluable.

Jack Moulton has to go
How has this not been implemented yet? It is the #1 feature I wanted from the site when I signed up, and for a while I assumed it MUST exist, I just hadn't found it in the UI. Baffling that this isn't present.
I would be more than happy with a simple collaborative filtering system. Infinitely better than nothing:
It's been 8.5 years. Please implement this. I'm surprised this hasn't been as it is a basic element to most sites nowadays.
Also came here to say that recommendations would be a great addition to Letterboxd!

Please do this, along with something like Netflix that gives you match score, the closer to 100%, the more Netflix is confident that you'll like the show based on you've been watching and liking.
We really need recommendations feature!
It would really bring this app up to a greater level, Please add this feature It Would be a great great achievement for letterboxd.
I don't know why after so many years of thousands of requests it hasn't yet been implimented, It is a must have feature.
Unfortunately, theres nothing else I could do about it but comment here and ask for you to do it.
how has this not been implemented yet? share anonymized data & your users can do it for you
So many list sites do this, this is something that would really be a great feature for this site
Jesus christ - a 7 year old reccomendation? What the hell are you guys doing around the office???
Goodreads already does this, it's definitely doable for the site to recommend films based on your likes and others users similar likes. What a great way it would be to discover new films! The fact that this has yet to be implemented is disappointing. People describe this site as Goodreads for movies...but it's really not. :(
would be great if letterboxd used friend charts in the same vein as rym , charts of the top-rated movies of a certain genre, decade, or length as rated by those you follow / or mutuals only ; and chart would be variable by different tags (esoteric etc.)
https://rateyourmusic.com/friendchart?user=malamashallah example chart using friends i have added on rym
This would be a great feature! This way I could add a movie or two to be added and listed on Letterboxd. :D

An algorithm that does exactly this is called Collaborative Filtering. Is something like this currently being developed?

Even a bare-bones, association web of some of the more popular films would be helpful.
I would like to see what movies people who like the same movies as me like.
are you still considering it because we still want it

I really don't understand how this is on top of user recommendations since 2011 and it's still not (at least partially) implemented 8 years later! Pleeeease :)
@Matthew This feature request is >7 years old!
Here is my recommendation: Do not implement an obscure blackbox algorithm! It is way better to have a transparent, easy tool for users to create their own algorithmic recommendations. I've been monitoring the market for a long time now... this is missing. Contact me if you like to have my thoughts on this.
yes please! this would be so useful!
I dont suppose there is an update on this?

Please work on this. It would be a core feature for the website.
