make release year view more visible
When backloading my watched movies, I wanted to view all movies by year (not tagged by year, or someones list for a year). Putting a year into the search box didn't get what I wanted.
I only accidentally found the /release/[year] URI, which gives exactly what I wanted.
This is surfaced in two ways: as a dropdown on the Diary page and as clickable links in each diary entry’s icon (year and month are clickable).
Right, my misunderstanding. We have some good changes planned to make the browsing of films by year/genre/etc much more obvious, yes.

These 'two ways' refer to different things:
AFAICS the dropdown on the Diary page is the "watched date", not the release date, and only applies to movies that I have reviewed and given a date.
My use case is finding movies that I saw when they were released.
The clickable link in a movie entry is how I accidentally discovered the /films/released/[year] uri, a roundabout way of finding it.
Perhaps if a (possible) date is given in search, then a link to released by date should show up in the results?
