New System for Handling Films Marked as Adult

Recently, a lot of sexploitation and other classic exploitation and cult films have been removed from Letterboxd because someone on TMDB has been marking them as Adult. I think that the process of importing titles needs to be rethought, because it is drastically affecting my abilities to keep track of my lists and reviews, and it really hurts to see titles disappear after I have put effort into writing reviews and managing lists.

Something really needs to be done about this, because this has continued to be an issue since I first started using the site, and so far there has been no solution to these issues.

Cult films with adult elements should not be marked as Adult on TMDb, as far as we aware. This flag is meant for straight pornographic material.

It’s possible we can override the Adult flag in certain cases where films are of historical significance but where TMDb insists they are Adult. I do not have a timeframe for this work, however.

It should be trivial to allow for a flag to be set to movies marked as 'adult' that could be filtered out of default search results unless a user is logged in and confirms their age is over 18. This would allow your core user base, many of whom are exploitation/cult movie fans, to continue to review/discuss important cult films that happen to have adult elements in them.

I'd like to second that notion. It doesn't make any sense to exclude adult films and only diminishes the very thing this site stands for: The exploration of any and all kinds of cinema.

Any updates on this issue Letterboxd admins?

I haven't logged any of the film I've been watching recently on the newly launched exploitation.tv streaming service because none of them are on Letterboxd (including three Radley Metzger films). Can we please get adult titles on Letterboxd already by giving users the option to "See Mature Titles."

I believe that adult films are very important to the history of cinema, and think they deserve some degree of respect.

Seriously, to not allow them is to not acknowledge their significance in the history of film.

Please, please, please allow us to log adult films. There are so many grindhouse classics labelled as adult that i'm not able to log and have to simply mention in a review for a film I watched on the same day.

I think a great compromise would be allowing users to filter adult titles like IMDb does.

+3. Strongly agree. Manny vs Pacquio, MGS3, but no adult classics?

There is a world of adult film classics that aren't allowed on Letterboxd. Legitimate titles like The Opening of Misty Beethoveen, Behind the Green Door, Nightdreams, Cafe Flesh. Yet we're allowing things like a boxing match (Mayweather vs. Pacquiao)? This doesn't make much sense to me.

I'd suggest that movies which are marked as Adult appear on Letterboxd, at least giving users an option of a filter to turn on or offf, because there are many movies on TMDB which are not really pornographic, but marked as adult (such as documentaries dealing with the adult industry, or classic sexploitation flicks). i am asking this because most users watch these kinds of films and yet are unable to keep track of them on your site, much less review or share them, thus our general use of the site is incomplete. I'd really like to be able to track all of the movies I watch, regardless of them being children's cartoons or exploitation flicks with hardcore scenes. There is no point in banning such titles from your site as long as they don't show posters or other material of adult nature. Heck, even IMDb shows the actual titles to their users, only without showing the posters.

I want to add for example the Finnish movie Breaking Point (1975) but can't find it because it has been specified as "adult" in TMDB and defaukt search exclude adult film.
