@Orestes Our policy is to use English-language posters where one is available.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

@marienbad For very popular films that have had their poster locked, the best way to report them is via the "flag" icon on the film's page. For less popular films, try upvoting the TMDb poster that best represents the first-release poster of the film, and we should pull in that update accordingly.

Could you please elaborate on why the diary view for a tag isn’t sufficient, perhaps with an example use case? Thanks.

Adding all visible films on a page to a list is now available as a Patron feature on our website. The option shows in the sidebar or (on pages without a sidebar) it can be found in the disclosure arrow menu on the “+ Log” button.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

@charlotte Our support team can change passwords in situtations like this, so if you feel you’re not getting the benefit of Pro otherwise, please drop us a line (help@letterboxd.com).

In terms of adding a large number of films, we have an importer that can consume a text file and turn it into watched films on your account. With Pro you can also add all visible films on a page to a list. Using these two functions together it would be possible to create a list, export it (in Settings) and then import it to your account with "mark as watched" enabled in the importer. It’s a little bit roundabout, but works.

More here on the importer: https://letterboxd.com/about/importing/

Otherwise it’s more or less a manual process to mark films watched as you see them around the site (a single click on the "eye" icon on a poster is enough to do it).

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

@John I’ll amend this to under consideration. We can see the benefit of marking a collection as watched (but this still only represents a small number of films, as most don’t belong to a collection at all).

Partial account data deletions are not possible at this time, sorry.

You can reset your ratings histogram by saving changes on your Settings bar. We show 10 bars unless fewer than 10% of your ratings use half-stars, then we switch to five bars.

@Morbus Appreciate you coming to my defense. Please note that no reviews are "permanently lost" if a film is removed from the site — they’re always available in your personal Export file (in Settings). As you point out, as a moderator of TMDb I’m also charged with correctly flagging content according to their classification rules, and sometimes this means films get removed on our side.

May I reiterate that we are a very small team maintaining and moderating a huge platform/community of film lovers. While we’d love to have prioritized this topic, others have proven more important. We’re still thinking about how best to action it, particularly given the subjective nature of introducing this type of exception to our import criteria ("if you let x, why not y?" etc).

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

@Nick Sorry, it’s been reclassified as Adult by another TMDb moderator, so got removed again. We don't have the resources to look into it further, I’d suggest approaching someone in their forums if it’s definitely miscategorized.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

    @Nick Fixed. http://boxd.it/Ce

Progress on this may take some time, we have some other priorities to hit first.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

I’m happy to collate them from comments here, or for you to link to a Google doc or similar where you can collaborate. Please ping me via these comments when you’ve got an initial list together…

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

Let’s do this: can someone in this thread compile a list of “important/historically significant” adult films that should be on LB. Then we can see about adding an exceptions list to our importer that uses this list.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

Cult films with adult elements should not be marked as Adult on TMDb, as far as we aware. This flag is meant for straight pornographic material.

It’s possible we can override the Adult flag in certain cases where films are of historical significance but where TMDb insists they are Adult. I do not have a timeframe for this work, however.

We have considered a few options in consultation with members, and our solution to preventing members posting comments (and removing all comments from a member) is to Block the member on their profile page.

Blocking was recently upgraded so if you block a member, their comments are removed from all of your content, for you and anyone who visits it.

We’re happy with the 15-minute edit window on comments, and in extreme cases you can use the report function to have your own comments removed beyond this window.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

@Zak Not at present, but you can report the comment and ask a moderator to remove it. We’re looking to add more options around comment removal soon.

We’ve manually run our import on all these links. It’s possible the crew member types you’ve added are not being imported (we don’t import all types). Composers should import though!

We import every 24 hours and TMDB has a 6-hour API cache, so depending upon where you are in that cycle, updates should come over in 30 hours at most. Backdrops are added manually for popular films. Posters should come over automatically, but get locked at our end for popular films, to prevent them changing frequently.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

We can’t see an English synopsis of this film on TMDb. If you add one, we’ll import it the next day.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

Please confirm the TMDb URL and we will take a look.

@Snowboardjunkie Specifically in response to your feedback, we have added advertising in a way that we hope isn’t too intrusive or offensive. There are no take-over ads or units that overlap content in mobile views, etc. Our aim is to be respectful of our audience wherever possible. Thanks for the comment.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

Apologies, we meant to merge your comment with the existing thread on advertising, but chose the wrong option.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

@Anonymous Yes, Pro and Patron members don’t see ads (except for internal ads for things like the annual Year in Review, etc).

Yes, you can pin reviews to your profile by tagging them with "profile". The two most recently tagged reviews will show.

We already allow you to save “private” lists. DIsable the public setting and save.

We do not have draft reviews, yet (but in our iOS app you can cancel a review and we save its contents for next time).

We do have a manual way of removing "cameo" actions from stats if they are reported as such (email hello@letterboxd.com).

We’re looking at improving our heuristic that identifies lesser roles in a film’s cast as well.
