We agree with that point, but there’s also no need to pull in your entire history right from the outset. You can begin using Letterboxd, get comfortable with it, then upgrade and import later to complete your account if you wish. We figure if you like us enough to want to import, that’s worth the small fee to be Pro.

It looks like something is blocking our CSS files. This may be happening at your provider, or due to a content blocking plugin in your browser. Please eliminate any content blockers and retry.

It’s served from the domain ltrbxd.com — perhaps check with your provider whether this is getting blocked for any reason?

@Andy Kemp We rely on TMDb.org for all our credits, including cinematographers. If they’ve been added by the users of that site (or you!) then you can switch to the Crew tab on one of their films and click to see everything else they’ve worked on. We know this data isn't complete, but every little bit helps!

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

Yes, we plan to add some sorting options to the actor/director/studio pages, which could include user rating.

@Elliott There should be a panel below the film poster. If there isn't it’s probably because you’re running a content or ad blocker. This is what it looks like:

    https://cl.ly/hNAG

The "More Services" link is at the bottom of the panel.

One thought occurs, and it’s a usability issue we’ll need to address: if you click the ★ icon to rate the film, which opens the rating control, and you select a rating for a film, it’s possible to then swipe to the next film without "saving" that rating using the checkmark icon. For now, you need to tap the checkmark icon to save the rating on each film.

We have a plan to improve this so that rating control is always live.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

This page here lists your activity for Dawn of the Dead (2004) and is showing no activity: http://letterboxd.com/kevinbro/film/dawn-of-the-dead-2004/activity/

So this means that there was likely an issue with the ratings being stored from the carousel view, we’ll see if we can recreate that here. Thanks again for reporting.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

Kevin, you can restart that process from the "Search" tab. There are options to drill into popular and highest-rated films there (and others), and once you get to the film list, there’s a carousel icon to enter the full-screen view.

We’ll take a look and see if we can figure out why those previous ratings didn't take.

Yes, it’s definitely more obvious when the numbers are very low. And as films with low numbers effectively receive the average rating for the site, if you’re looking at a director whose films are all rated poorly, then all of their popular films will appear below all of their unknown/unrated films in the ranked list. Thanks for following up. We’ll keep in mind.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

A couple of things to note: weighted average is calculated every six hours, so adding a new rating to a film won’t necessarily change the weighted average for that film until it’s recalculated.

The more ratings a film receives, the more we weight the average towards the true mean value of those ratings. We feel it’s incorrect for a film with a single 5-star rating to rank ahead of a film with 99 5-star ratings and a 4-star rating, which is what would happen without our weighted algorithm.

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

The highest-rated film appears to be correct now, it’s showing “The Thing”. Average ratings are calculated using a weighted rating system, so do not show the “true mean rating” if only a handful of members have rated the film.

Could you please provide examples of how to recreate this issue, including the URL of the page you visited and whether the problem manifested itself immediately (or what you did to cause it to happen). Thanks!

Thanks, we weren’t aware they were publishing that data. Good to know if our current plan doesn’t pan out.

Can I Stream It (and other API partners) aren’t able to on-share their NF availability data from what we can tell.

@Ben You can import content as long as the column headers match those in our documentation. We'll happily refund your Pro fee if the import doesn’t do what you want, but have a read here first to see what columns we support: http://letterboxd.com/about/importing/

You'll want to import ratings into your account (as opposed to a list, or your Watchlist), so you should start here (once you’ve upgraded): http://letterboxd.com/import/

AdminMatthew Buchanan (CEO / Founder, Letterboxd) commented  ·

For Pro members, we have an importer detailed here: http://letterboxd.com/about/importing/

If Flixster provides a way to export your data, you can probably reformat it to work with this format.

Thanks for your feedback and ideas around recommendations and taste matching. We've been focused on site performance for the past several months, and on readying API/apps. These pieces of work are next in line. Letterboxd is a bootstrapped business, not a funded enterprise, but we're putting every second into it that we're able to.

This is still in our future plans, but a note to Elbon: you can easily move an item from the end of a list to the start by clicking its item number on the Edit page (when these are visible) and changing it to a 1. The item you change will be moved to the #1 position and the rest of the list is shifted one position down.
