Given that we're able to sort film titles based on the Letterboxd user base ratings, it really makes a lot of sense to allow users to also sort film titles based on their own personal ratings as well. Sorting could go in descending star rating (4 highest), with those titles with no personal rating (or 0 stars) at the end.

Switching to the Films/Diary view doesn't help for sorting entries in lists, or for sorting entries matching a tag filter. The original submitter is right -- sorting by Added is not helpful when movies are added out of order (and creates a disincentive to retroactively add older titles since they will show up as being added more recently). It would be really useful to be able to sort by Watched based on logged diary entry dates; stick titles which don't have a logged diary entry date at the end, just like what's currently being done for films which don't have running times re: "Sort By Length" or films that don't have release dates re: "Sort by Release Date"

Thanks Rob, really value this feedback. The key reason for choosing TMDb over IMDb was cost. The former is free, the latter charges a five-figure sum annually for use of its data by other apps. We haven’t ruled out switching, but as a bootstrapped project it wasn’t something we could take on from the outset.

As an aside, in the short term we plan to add a mechanism to allow instant import from TMDb by entering the ID of a new film. Until that happens feel free to drop a line to hello@letterboxd.com with any TMDb IDs you’d like imported and we’ll do them straight away. Not a perfect solution but hopefully might remove a little of the pain for you.
