Josh, thanks for the comment. Yeah, that feature was implemented just last year I think. I don't use it much because I keep forgetting how to get to it, so thanks for the reminder. I think I will delete my 2 comments in this thread because it isn't relevant (to me) anymore now that I can't rent dvds online. I would still appreciate being able to include a note when watchlisting a film. I'd love to write "recommended by Kevin" or "Phips hated it - so I might like it" or "Blackie wrote a great review about this" as I'm adding it to the watchlist so that I can remember why I put it there.

We have considered this. The main drawback right now is the time required to oversee this in an official capacity, which we don’t have. Perhaps it needs to be a community-run thing under an official umbrella. We’re open to talking more about it!

Oh, sorry about that - I had a sentence or two stating that it could be run by a volunteer so as not to trouble you guys... I guess that sentence got lost in the edits (you guys aren't the only ones to have gremlins in your systems ;-)

I've wanted that for a while now. To get around it I have been adding specific tags, like TIFF 2013, TIFF 2014, etc. I ended up with loads of tags.

+1. I like that we can quickly find users' reviews if they liked ours, by clicking on "likes" and seeing the list of people who liked our review, which displays their ratings and the icon for their reviews. But if they haven't liked our review there is no way to quickly see if a user liked or reviewed or even saw a film.

It is more complicated but what would be ideal for me is to keep a list of "favourite users" such that I could do a search, say for "Enders' Game", click on "favourite users" and see a list which displays their rating, review, etc. Even just looking at the existing "seen by friends" from a movie page is cumbersome without being able to filter that list or search it.

I was just about to post something similar, with regards to community lists. When someone creates a list like: every single Palmes D'or winner in history, it would be great to flag it somehow as a Community List in the sense that everyone can see it in a special place so that 25 other people don't have to make the same list. Basically a place for lists that don't change, to avoid duplication given how much work is involved in such lists.

Yes, this would be fantastic. I realize we can go into "list view", and for the most part part that works out fine except when there is no "list view", like when viewing tags. So when I click on my "Japan" tag and see all the Japanese films I've seen I have to hover over each one.

Also when re-ordering a numbered list in thumbnail view, hovering doesn't bring up the title. Again, the alternative is to go into "list view", but that view requires so much scrolling; sometimes you just want a quick way with all the thumbnails.

Aside from from all that, though, it would be so much simpler to navigate the site if we could always see titles, especially when viewing foreign-language films. Cover art changes; titles don't.

I love this idea. I just encountered a scenario where it would have been mighty helpful. I created a list for films I wanted to see in 2013. Then I thought why create a list? I can just add them to my watchlist and sort by date to see all of the 2013 entries. So I deleted the list. Then I had to recreate the list because I wanted to know why I wanted to see those films in particular (won at Cannes? Director I like? etc), especially when it comes to selecting the films I want to see that will be playing at TIFF. So yeah, adding notes to films in the watchlist would be great. I'm not sure how it could work, though. I mean, a film disappears from the watchlist the minute it is watched, so the notes would leave with it, which is fine as long as people know they will lose the notes in that case.

Part of what you suggest here is already available: you can click the year on any film page to see all films released that year (and hide the ones you’ve seen using the eye icon with the slanted line through it).

We are currently working through some the process of better surfacing this kind of control in other areas.

Thanks Matthew. I knew there was a way because I came across it the other day, but try as I might I couldn't recall how I had done it. And yeah, it would be great to have that functionality elsewhere as well, especially under the profile's "films" "by release date", with a grouping function or something. Love the improvements you guys are making to the site. Good job.

One way might be to keep the comments but change the user name to Anonymous.

We did take this approach initially, but then we decided to include the comment text in the email, which removed the need to return to the site at all in order to keep reading the thread. Which meant we had to always send emails.

I have to stop adding to my TIFF 2012 - All Films list which was meant to include all films playing at the Toronto Film Fest this year, because the list is too large and it is too much trouble to manually move the recently added films in alphabetical order. Darn Shame. I so wanted to create this list and keep it up to date before the festival begins, so that festival goers could create their own "What to see at TIFF" lists just by browsing this one.

It's not just a chrome issue. I reported it and was told it was a bug. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

Changing the url is an awkward way to do things. I agree that more page numbers should be listed. But worse than this is the fact that there are NO pages numbers when looking at all the reviews for a film: all you have is a NEXT and PREVIOUS button. Not a good idea when you are reading reviews for The Grey, which has hundreds of them!
